Jottings of an Unloved

Growing up in a loveless home with abusive, patriarchal parents left me with traumatic memories. After a decade of no contact, I visited them when my father was terminally ill. The experience brought back tormenting memories, and I struggled to cope with the emotions that followed.

All I could do was traverse the depths of my mind, perceiving the world through my own emotional filters. I took pictures whenever I visited a concealed landmark in my mind, unknowingly creating a map of my inner journey. These photos are cohesive in character and source, acting as markers of my mind's state at that moment.

Seeing my emotions reflected in these images brought me peace. I found catharsis and a means to communicate with myself. Animals, which become human-like characters mimicking my state of mind.  I've come to understand that my past will always be a part of me, but it's okay to acknowledge and be vulnerable.

Despite the challenges, I'm enduring and thriving in my own beautiful way.
