அன்பு மகள் / Anbu Magal
அன்பு மகள் (Beloved Daughter) is an inquiry into the Dalit female identity, often overlooked in dominant historical and cultural narratives. Through photographs, prints, and notes, I examine my personal history and the oppressive structures rooted in caste and patriarchal hierarchies. To understand the evolution of the visual culture tied to this identity, I study personal and public archives. Inspired by the writings of Tamil author and activist Bama Faustina Soosaira, I collaborate with my mother to create images that explore memory, resistance, and reclamation.
The Anthotypes, which are self-portraits and ephemeral prints made with flower pigments, embody the transient recognition given to Dalit women and the persistent marginalization of their voices. அன்பு மகள் (Beloved Daughter) becomes a journal where I create my place in the world through words, images, and voices.
