Michael Weir
Director - Belfast Photo Festival
Michael Weir, is an interdisciplinary curator, creative producer and activist based in Belfast and Bristol. He is director of the Belfast Photo Festival which he founded in 2009 where he has curated numerous exhibitions of contemporary art with a primary focus on photography, having had the pleasure of curating exhibitions for such artists as Ai Wei Wei, Vivianne Sassen, Zanele Muholi and Richard Mosse.
Founding RENDR Festival in 2020 he has since worked as artistic director, producing and commissioning exhibition installations of art at the intersection of creativity and technology. Michael works internationally as a visiting lecturer at numerous organisations, schools and festivals in Europe and around the world.
He has served as a member of the jury on various projects, art prizes and international awards, including the ICP Infinity Awards (New York), Encontre de Imagem (Bragha) and SIFEST (Bologna) among others. He also regularly participates in international portfolio readings, notably at Le Rencontres De La Photographie (Arles), Art Taipei (Taiwan), Platform20 (Switzerland), the Singapore International Photography Festival and Chobi Mela (Bangladesh).
