MOMUS - various schools submitted as one project (Greece & Belgium)

145 students aged 9-12 from six schools in Greece and Brussels collaborated on an amazing eTwinning photography project. ETwinning is a European Commission’s action through which schools from different European countries, using ICT tools, work together to gain educational, social and cultural benefits. The project in question was entitled “The aim is the frame” and, during eight months of work, children from different schools felt members of a community and of a joint effort, dealing with three thematic units: “Environment”, “Professions” and “Diversity”. MoMus-Museum of Photography in Thessaloniki was the cooperation partner of the project and provided students with online photography classes, so as to give them the opportunity to get familiarized with different photographic techniques both theoretically and practically. The structure of the main part of the project included the following steps:
The schools worked in pairs to research and present the life and work of Greek and foreign photographers who were related to each thematic unit.
The two schools shared their collaborative presentation with the rest of the partners.
The students of each class worked in small groups (2-3 people). Inspired by the work of the photographer researched and presented, they decided together on how to take their own picture, so as to capture the essence of the given thematic unit.
All pictures of all the groups from all schools were then uploaded on a site that was created for this reason. Schools were asked to vote for their most favourite picture (one from each class).

In the form of a relay, every most favourite picture from each class went around the schools and the students created something different for every given photo; they gave a title; they wrote a short description; others recorded the title and the short description in Greek & in English.
The results of this entire process were a photo exhibition in a cultural venue provided by the Municipality of Thessaloniki and, at the same time, a digital museum which was created so that visitors from all over the world have access to it. The photos that have the honour to participate in the Children’s Photo Bienalle Edition IV fall under the theme "Professions: people and places." All of those pictures depict moments in the lives of various professionals as they capture either the professionals themselves or places, tools and equipment related to them.
