River Budur
Chennai, India
River (b.1998) is a trans-disciplinary artist currently based in Chennai. He has been playing with words and colors for as long as he can remember. As someone who wasn’t allowed to go out for the majority of his life, art has been his way of creating colour and joy in isolation. He likes to work with photography, performance, and illustration, and also tinkers with video and poetry.

River’s work confronts the able-bodied gaze, highlighting how it distorts the perception of disabled bodies. Embracing a disabled, oppositional gaze, his practice challenges and subverts dominant narratives that portray disabled bodyminds as sources of inspiration or tragedy. He explores frankly the embodied reality of the body he occupies— his crooked limbs, his walker-legs, this bed he lives with.
