Hey! Exhibition

An Exhibition of work by individuals with disabilities and neurodivergence

Disabled and neurodivergent individuals have a heightened sensory perception that allows them to examine and understand details in ways that neurotypical people often can't. Hey! is a greeting - an invitation to engage and look at ability within disability, to recognise that being different is just being different - not less or more. The Hey! Program by CPB Learning Lab was initiated to make photography accessible and inclusive as an art form to everyone and to celebrate diverse narratives.

Many of the exhibiting artists were taught how to capture unique and fun self portraits and images to express themselves through the photographic form. Images were also invited via an Open call to the specific disabled and neurodivergent communities to share their work for the exhibition. The works in the exhibition are from individuals with hearing impairment, speech impairment, visual impairment, autism, muscular dystrophy and more.

The curated works were an outcome of the monthly Hey! workshops by CPB Learning Lab in 2024 in Chennai and from the India Inclusion Summit in Bengaluru, as well as from the Open Call for entries from across the world! A total of 39 artists were showcased. The Hey! Workshops were additionally supported by @inbritish. We are grateful for the gracious support from RR Donnelly @rrdgocreative_showcase for enabling this exhibition to come to light and to VR Chennai @vr.chennai for providing their space to host this extraordinary exhibition.
