Residency Construct
2 artists from Sri Lanka and 2 artists from Tamil Nadu will be selected via an open-call for proposals. Applicants must have fluent command of Tamil in order to qualify.
The artists will visit their counterpart country for a 1-month residency
During the residency it is expected that participants will engage with local subjects and research
The CPB Foundation in Chennai and Kalam in Jaffna will be the hosts for the residents and will facilitate connections and discussions as required by the artists, supported by the Goethe-Institut in each country.
The artists will have the opportunity to meet their counterpart residents for a short interaction for 2 days once the residency begins and have the opportunity to have a public discussion where artists can share their works and meet the community.
The intention of the residency is for participants to create lens-based work that will be exhibited in both countries.
Projects created by the selected artists will be exhibited as part of the Chennai Photo Biennale Edition 4 and a possible iteration with Kalam, in Jaffna thereafter
Each selected artist will receive an honorarium of INR 25,000 for their participation in the residency. Expenses towards travel and stay for the residency program will be covered by the organisers.
Should a participant need to travel locally in either Tamil Nadu or beyond Jaffna for their research or to create further work, they can request additional support based on actual costs.
